Challah and KnifeTBE  SISTERHOOD  SHABBAT

JANUARY 27 & 28, 2012

Followed by Oneg Shabbat and Kiddush Luncheon

WHAT IS IT?  Every year, we celebrate “Sisterhood Shabbat,” when the women of our congregation lead the Friday night and Shabbat morning services.  Rochelle Proujansky and Myra Berkowitz coordinate the distribution of honors.  Linda Mandel will coordinate the Oneg Shabbat and Dish-To-Pass Kiddush luncheon.

YES, EVERYONE IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE, INCLUDING YOU.  It is our Sisterhood’s tradition for as many women as possible to lead services on Friday night and Saturday morning.  Please join in.  It’s a wonderful Shabbat to be together.  Participants read prayers, conduct a portion of the service, read Torah, or provide a blessing in either English or Hebrew. Myra and Rochelle are very nice and will not let you fail.  Sisterhood Shabbat is open to all women on the synagogue, not just Sisterhood members.  Each individual in our synagogue is important and standing on the Bimah leading the congregation is a powerful way to remind ourselves we are each leaders.

Contributing something delectable for the Friday night Oneg  (Kosher cookies, baked goods & salty snacks)or for the dish-to-pass Kiddush luncheon following morning services (salads, coffee cakes, cold beverages) is yet  another way to participate.

VOLUNTEERS  to help with set-up and clean-up are needed.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

1. Call Rochelle Proujansky at 277-0138, rep@twcny.rr.com to volunteer for Friday night, or Myra Berkowitz 387-4453, mjb20@cornell.edu for Shabbat morning.

2. Call Linda Mandel (315-364-3827, lmandel79@hotmail.com and tell her what you’ll bring for the Dairy Dish-to-Pass Kiddush luncheon and the Oneg Shabbat.  The entire congregation enjoys these holiday occasions, so Linda really needs your contributions and help.

3.  Setting up and cleaning up after these events, simply does not happen by magic.  Please offer to help Linda – it’s fast, relatively painless, and so important.

Best wishes,

Linda Aigen and Linda Mandel, Sisterhood Co-PresidentsChallah candles wine
