TBE Teens
Learning, Leadership, and Community
Jewish teens need spaces where they can ask big questions, form meaningful connections, and develop a sense of ownership over their Jewish identities. At Temple Beth-El, our teen program is designed to support these needs, centered around these four guiding values:
Limud (Learning): We embrace lifelong Jewish learning, seeking knowledge not just for answers but for the sake of curiosity, growth, and understanding. We encourage teens to ask big questions and develop their own understanding of what it means to be Jewish.
Ruach (Spirit): We bring energy, joy, and passion to Jewish life, whether through song, celebration, or deep conversation. Our community is a place where Judaism is vibrant, inspiring, and fun.
Chesed (Loving-Kindness): We believe in taking care of one another and making a difference in the world. We practice compassion and social responsibility, ensuring that our actions reflect our values.
Kehillah (Community): We are stronger together. Our teen program is a space where everyone belongs, where teens can build lifelong friendships, support one another, explore their Jewish identities in a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
Our dynamic slate of programming provides teens with the opportunities to learn, lead, and connect in ways that feel relevant, inspiring, and engaging. Whether through deep discussions, hands-on leadership experiences, immersive travel, or social gatherings, teens can find a space that speaks to their interests while building lasting friendships and a strong sense of Jewish identity.
Our teen programs are open to all Jewish teens in Ithaca, regardless of synagogue affiliation—we welcome anyone looking for a place to explore their Judaism, build community, and make a difference. No matter how you choose to participate, Temple Beth-El’s teen program provides a space to grow, learn, and make lasting friendships.
The TBE Teen Executive Board partners with the Director of Education and Engagement to elevate and advocate for the teen community at Temple Beth-El. Board members strive to be dugma’ot, or role models, for incoming TBE teens and the younger generation, and serve as a bridge to the larger Temple Beth-El community. By showing up through their ideas and actions, they model what it means to be a Jewish teen at TBE, creating a safe space for teens to come together for holidays, Shabbat, group learning sessions and trips, tikkun olam, and fun!
