Temple Beth-El Kashrut Policy & Kitchen Procedure
At Temple Beth-El, we strive to be known for our hospitality; visitors should always feel welcome in our synagogue. It is important that the standard of kashrut observed in the TBE kitchen be such that any Jew will be able to sit at our table without hesitation or question. And yet, we know that there may be Jews who, no matter how stringent the standard, would not feel comfortable eating in a Conservative/Masorti synagogue. Balancing the values of hachnasat orchim (welcoming guests), maintaining our own commitment to TBE being a shomer mitzvot (observing the commandments) environment, and catering to the needs of our community members is of critical importance. Therefore, the following policy regarding kashrut at TBE events and use of the Temple Beth-El kitchen has been crafted by the Rabbi and endorsed by the Board of Trustees. These rules seek to balance strict adherence to traditional observance of kashrut with the needs and desires of TBE congregants to contribute to nourishing our community.
